Betty Jo Prater

Betty Jo Prater, 71, of McArthur, passed away, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the OSU Medical Center in Columbus. She was born April 23, 1942 in Crites, WV, daughter of the late John Edward and Frances Bowen Watkins. She was the widow of the late Jerry G. Prater.

Betty was a retired nurse, an avid bowler and an Elvis Presley enthusiast. She was also a member of The Ministries of the Well and a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5299 and the McArthur Eagles Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Mark) Bentley of Creola; the love of her life, Leonard “Perky” Perkins of McArthur; Perky’s children, Debbie (Rich) Walker of Florida, Teresa (Everett) Stevens of Florida, Sandra (Lonnie) Nelson of Creola, Brenda (Kenny) Butcher of Jackson, Betty (Dale) Graves of McArthur and Leonard Perkins Jr. of Hamden; four grandchildren, Jeri (Josh French) Bentley of McArthur, Anthony (Stacey Leach) Bentley of Creola, Tommy Bentley of Creola and Amber (Jonathon) Woltz of Allensville; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Shelby (Howard) Whitcraft of Albany and Lois Lamb of McArthur; her best friend, Carolyn Bandy of Hamden and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Prater and Richard Cook; a great-nephew, T.J. Lemay and her mother-in-law Ella Prater.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Pastor Jesse Reynolds officiating. Interment will be at Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home where a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service will be held at 7:30 pm.
